Subject: Setting up verdigris

Materials:

Copper

String

Mason Jar

Vinegar

I received my the materials to make my verdigris -- copper, string, and a mason jar -- in class. After purchasing some vinegar at the store, I came home and set up my verdigris according to the instructions found in Merrifield, pg. 124, no. 125. I suspended the copper above the vinegar by tying the string around the strip of copper and positioning it at an angle above the copper in the jar. I secured the string by pinning it against the edge of the jar with the jar lid. I set it in a warm spot in my kitchen where I knew it would be undisturbed.

I checked the progress of my verdigris. The copper appears to have turned a blue-green color. It looks slightly more blue than green in coloring.

My verdigris appears to be more sea-green now, in my opinion. From my vantage point, the streaks in the verdigris seemed less noticeable than before.

As far as I can tell, my verdigris remains unchanged. It is dark and mostly solid in color. It is a greenish color and has a few streaks at the bottom
