Subject: Verdigris set up
The recipe I followed was from Merrifield verdigris p. 124, no. 155: How to make the green from brass which is called Greek or common green
Materials Used
Copper sheet
String
Mason jar
Scissors
Distilled White Vinegar (5% acidity)
I cut the copper into thin strips with the scissors and bent them over the string so that they could be suspended across the lid of the mason jar. I poured a pool of the vinegar into the jar, hung the string of copper strips above, and sealed the jar with the lid. I placed this in my window sill

I checked the jar and noticed that small spots of deep teal had begun to grow. I was surprised that the verdigris had started to grow so quickly.

I checked on my verdigris again today. The copper looks entirely covered with green growth, and there are beads of liquid hanging off the ends. I suspect this is evaporated liquid, as the jar has not tipped over and the copper has not touched the vinegar directly.
